Community Worker
Mae Sot district, Tak Province

Work location: Mae Sot district, Tak Province, Thailand.

Background:

Dreamlopments (DLP) Foundation is a non-profit, mission-driven organization working on aid and development for underserved communities. DLP is currently implementing the Migrant Fund (M-FUND), a project of a low-cost not-for-profit health access fund for migrants in Thailand not covered by government health insurance schemes. The project was started in Tak province in 2017 and has since expanded in Sakaeo, Poipet, Kanchanaburi, Myawaddy, Chiang Rai, Ubon Ratchathani, Trat, and Mae Hong Son province.

We are looking for a Community Worker (CW) to join the M-FUND team, based in Mae Sot district, Tak Province, Thailand.

 

Job overview:

Each CW is in charge, in his/her designated project area, of providing information about the M-FUND to migrants, enrolling migrants into the project, and supporting enrolled members to receive free quality health care when needed, in a network of partner health care providers.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Conduct, with the Project Manager (PM), activities/campaigns of information and promotion of the project in migrant communities. 

  • Organize meetings with the community representatives and leaders to gather support for the project.

  • Have daily contact and presence in the migrant communities to provide information to migrants about the M-FUND.

  • Enroll interested migrants into the project, as members of the M-FUND.

  • Provide information on the policies and the benefits to the members.

  • Ensure regular payment by collecting monthly premiums from enrolled members.

  • Be the Point of Contact (PoC) for all queries - for both members and non-members.

  • Provide support to members to receive quality health care, when needed, through the project network of partner health care providers.

  • Evaluate the needs and situation of members in case of illness and refer to the PM when required.

  • Develop collaborations with employers in the project area to support enrollment of employees into the project.

  • Develop collaboration with migrants’ schools in the project area to support enrollment of migrant families into the project.

  • Assist the PM in preparing reports for the President (Psdt).

  • Other tasks and assignments as needed and requested by the PM.

 

Qualifications required:

Education:

At least a high school diploma. Specific social work or public health training and certificates are a strong plus.

 

Work Experience: 

  • 2 years’ experience in community services for migrant communities along the Thailand-Cambodia border for international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs/CBOs.

  • Experience in running community health information or education campaigns is a plus.

  • Experience in successfully engaging with community leaders and representatives.

  • Experience in participating in project monitoring.

 

Skills and competencies: 

  • Fluent in Burmese and Thai. Good command of other local ethnic language a strong

     plus.

  • Positive attitude towards the concept of (health) micro-insurance.

  • Fair use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and internet-based  

     applications.

  • Ability to operate in a multicultural team environment.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Energetic, highly motivated.

  • Good planning and organizational skills, able to set priorities, as well as being flexible.

  • Details and quality-oriented.

  • Able to follow project timelines and work under pressure.

  • Diplomatic.

 

Working Environment: 

The position will be based in Mae Sot and requires daily work and presence in the migrant communities. Frequent travel to migrant communities in other areas of Tak province may be required.
